Mr. Michael Duarte and Dr. Alan Semine founded AIE in November, 2000 to pursue developing innovative image processing software that provides clinical benefits for radiologists in the screening and diagnosis of disease.


Michael J. Duarte
President and CEO
Mr. Duarte is co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of AIE. He has over 25 years of management, scientific and engineering experience in various technology areas. Mr. Duarte is the inventor and author of the initial patent that is the baseline for AIE's development and author of a second granted patent related to image enhancement. Mr. Duarte is a second time entrepreneur and holds an MBA from the Wharton School, M.S. in Computer Science and B.S. in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth.

Alan Semine, MD
Director of Clinical Applications
Dr. Alan Semine is co-founder of AIE. He is Chief of Breast Imaging at Newton-WellesleyHospital in Newton, Massachusetts, and has over 30 years of experience in radiology with a specialty in breast imaging. He directed both of AIE's clinical studies and was a key contributor to the basic research in medical image enhancment that led to the formation of AIE. Dr. Semine is a Clinical Professor of Radiology at Tufts University School of Medicine. He holds a B.A. from Harvard University and M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine.

Daniel Potter, Ph.D.
Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Potter has served as the Chief Technology Officer of AIE since 2002. He has over 25 years of experience in pattern recognition and software engineering and has worked with large companies and start-ups on various R&D technology projects. He is responsible for software design, development and implementation focusing on speed and robustness improvements in the AIE enhancement algorithms. Dr. Potter holds an M.S. and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University.

Two rounds of funding from the Slater Technology Fund supported business formation, business plan development and initial market validation with physicians and imaging vendors.

A third round of funding from the CherrystoneAngel Group supported clinical studies, FDA 510k filing and clearance, product development and licensing to AIE's first customer, Hologic, Inc.
